We sincerely believe that farmers who supply us coffees should be well compensated. For this reason, we make sure that farmers who bring their coffee to our drying stations get compensated higher than the daily market price. For 2021/2022 harvest season, we are paying farmers an additional 0.50 cents per/kg above the market price.
Furthermore, we record names and total quantity of coffee that each farmer brought to our drying stations. Because farmers are usually short in cash during non-harvesting seasons, we support them by paying-out additional 1 birr per/kg of coffee they brought to our drying stations. This extra income will greatly support farmers’ household.
In addition, for our premium coffees, we calculate a certain percentage from our total sales price and make certain that the farmers who contributed for that specific coffee gets compensated.
All in all, we believe that it is when farmers are incentivized that they will be motivated to produce quality coffees. As a result, we are always coming up with new ideas on how to help farmers earn more for the coffee that they grow.
